Gift Wrapping Inspiration and Ideas – How to bring a bit of Autumn in!

The magic of Autumn is here and with it comes earthy colours, rich textures and pretty nature inspired patterns to create the cosiest of vibes.

October may see temperatures dropping cooler but it most certainly makes up for it with one of the warmest colour palettes featuring the likes of burnt orange, rust and gold to name but a few.

And with such a traditional set of colours at hand, it really is one of the easiest of seasons to get right when being creative in your home, wardrobe or gift wrapping!

Autumn narrows down the colours and cleverly knows just what goes with what, so if in doubt just look to nature for ideas and inspiration and you won’t go far wrong!

Of course it’s not just colour that gives us a feel for a season and when it comes to wrapping your gifts for friends and loved ones there are lots of other ways you can bring that Autumn vibe including…

Texture

Texture is a great way to bring interest to a wrapped gift and whilst there are lots of ways to do this, one of our favourites is to layer up tissue paper and netting. As well as being pliable (so a great material when wrapping an awkward shaped gift) it also enables layering with other colours to give an interesting look.

Pattern

There are some lovely autumnal patterned papers, tissue and ribbons around and this Pteridomania Paper is a great example of that.

At this time of year hedgerows are full of ferns turning from green to brown and this decorative paper captures this so well. It’s like being transported to a country lane in the fall, just beautiful!

We’ve added a plain copper coloured taffetta ribbon and tied it in a shoe lace style bow but a mustard, dark green or rust ribbon would have worked just as well!

Foliage & natural touches

There are so many different types of decorative touches just lying around outside that can be added to a wrapped gift in Autumn. If you’re prepared to get out and forage in the countryside you’ll find all sorts of interesting additions including feathers, acorns or even interesting pieces of twig.

But if that’s not your thing or you live in a town or city and are a little limited on choice then don’t despair as there’s always something on your doorstep in abundance and at this time of year its usually leaves!

Whilst you may not have thought about adding leaves, its worth considering as they’re not only an interesting addition, colourful and free, they’re compostable and an environmentally friendly way to decorate your parcel!

If you’ve ever enjoyed beach combing for shells, it’s a similar concept! Get wrapped up, go for a walk and keep your eyes peeled as some leaves are just so perfect in colour and shape that, just like shells, they’ll call to you to take them home!

For a luxurious look, how about pleating some plain paper or tissue around a gift and tying them in on top with a wired ribbon or….

If you’re time bound, don’t feel like you have the skills to wrap neatly or you just simply want a more natural laid back look, then a paper bag can be really handy to have in your wrapping drawer and will still work wonderfully with the addition of a bit of foliage.

Just pop your gift inside the bag, fold it over and seal or simply scrunch it together as we’ve done below, tie it up with a complimentary coloured ribbon, slot your leaves in, add a pretty tag (or make your own) and hey presto!

Happy Autumn Wrapping!

Enjoy this beautiful season and if you need any bits and bobs, you always know where we are!
